Astral Religion in Egypt

Stars played an important role in ancient Egyptian belief. In the Pyramid Texts the soul of the deceased pharaoh ascends to the celestial realm of the imperishable circumpolar stars.

Pyramid Texts, Utterance 373
0, raise thyself up, NN,receive thy head, unite thy bones to thee, collect thy limbs, shake the earth from thy flesh.
Receive thy bread which cannot mould, thy beer which cannot sour.
Thou standest at the doors, which hold people back.
He who is chief of his department comes out to thee, he lays hold of thine arm, and takes thee to heaven to thy father Geb.
He rejoices at thy approach, he gives his arm to thee, he kisses thee, he embraces thee.
He places thee at the head of the spirits, the imperishable stars.
